Resources and Support for Israel

At Temple Beth David, we mourn the lives lost, and pray for healing of the wounded and the safe return of the captured. We decry the terrorist attacks perpetrated by Hamas, and the continuing loss of civilian lives. We stand in solidarity with the people of Israel, those who are defending the State, and all who seek peace. Our thoughts and sympathies are with innocent civilians in Israel and in Gaza. May an end to the violence and bloodshed come quickly.

How to Give

There are many organizations that need our support in Israel right now, providing services such as direct support for victims of terror and trauma response, tactical support for reservists and soldiers, shelter and medical care, and combating hate speech and disinformation.  The Temple Board voted to donate $1800 to the CJP fund and $1800 to the New Israel Fund.

CJP Fund (Combined Jewish Philanthropies in Boston) — "100% of your donation will go toward supporting victims of terror and addressing the unprecedented levels of trauma caused by these horrific attacks."
Magen David Adom (Red Cross) — Urgent care and blood supplies
New Israel Fund Emergency Response — Caring for the most vulnerable and affected; preventing intercommunal violence; combating hate speech and disinformation; providing trauma counseling; responding immediately to human and civil rights' violations.
HIAS (originally the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society) — Jewish American refugee support organization now organizing support in Israel for displaced people.
Physicians for Human Rights Israel's Emergency Response — Israeli organization addressing urgent medical needs both for Israelis and foreign workers in Israel as well as for Gazans.
Society for Protection of Nature in Israel (SPNI) — Providing shelter for Israeli families in danger and creating bridges for all who care for the land.             Israel Religious Action Center - Securing civil rights for a just and egalitarian Israel.
Toiletry Drive at TBD (through the Boston Israeli American Council)
UNICEF (United Nations Childrens Fund) — Providing humanitarian need to children in Gaza.
Doctors Without Borders — Providing medical supplies and care providers to civilians in need in Gaza.
World Central Kitchen — Providing meals in response to humanitarian, climate, and community crises.

How to Support Your Children

We know that the news coming out of Israel is scary and challenging for parents and is especially difficult to discuss with children. Below are some resources about talking with your children about the terrorist attacks and current war. If you would like to talk to Ariana Hershon or Rabbi Karen, please do not hesitate to reach out. How to Take Care of Yourself

Caring for your mind, body, and spirit can increase your ability to cope with traumatic events. Practice mindfulness, make sure you eat well, exercise, take a walk outdoors, and try to get enough sleep. Take social media breaks. You are not alone; connect with family and friends, your Temple Beth David community, and reach out for mental health support if needed. Rabbi Karen and temple staff are available to talk.
