Partakers – College Behind Bars

Partakers supports Massachusetts prison education by coordinating teams of volunteers who mentor inmates as they attend the Boston University Prison Education Program. A small but dedicated team from Temple Beth David visit an inmate as he works towards his college degree.

George is an inmate serving a life sentence at a local medium security prison.  He is a student, earning his Bachelor’s degree.  George likes to write and has written several short stories.  He had a story (George W. Partakers-published here with his permission) published by the Freedom-to-Write Committee of PEN New England.  This story is for adults and older teens.

Through its College Behind Bars mentoring program, inmates enhance skills critical to completing a college degree, and build trusting personal relationships. Both activities significantly increase inmates’ chances for success when they return to the community.  Chair: Linda Kipper
